OWENS Gordon

After almost 39 years (June 1991), Mr. Gordon Owens has retired from his owner driver school bus service with the Gnowangerup District High School.
Thirty-nine years ago, Mr. Owens purchased his bus and the Jackitup Rout from the now late Mrs. F. Kiddle. For many years he drove a VW Kombi bus and was involved in a collison at the corner or McDonald and Allerdyce Streets, luckily there was no injuries.
Gordon, over the years has also been a reliable radio and television service operator in the area.
He came to the district with his parents when he was a young man and in 1952 married Haidee Stutley of Jackitup.
With many hobbies, Gordon had plenty of interests to occupy his retirement years.
Having built a miniature steam train and track, he is now endeavouring to build a miniature electric train. He was a very serious builder of model aeroplanes and was president of their club.
Though he suffers with painful arthritis, Gordon also managed to indulge in his music hobby.
Supported by his wife Haidee, who was also engaged in district activities particularly the C.W.A.

An unusual attraction at the Gnowangerup Show in 1958 was the flying of model aeroplanes by members of the Gnowangerup Model Aeroplane Club in cluding Gordon Owens, President and Dave Compton, Len Toms and Stan Eastwood, Secretary.
